Impersonation bans?

I wanted to discuss this more in private I guess than in the Ded Server Admins forum.

Very well, unbanned. Sorry you got banned, but I'm sure you understand that we can't have people running around claiming to be someone else.

I believe that if someone is attempting to impersonate us or one of our admins, they deserve to be banned.
However, I question where we should draw the line on other impersonation banning.

Heck. While playing Gmod (not always, but even yes, sometimes on our server), I've seen Garry, President Bush, Jesus Christ, President Clinton, Satan, just to name but a few people. Though not 100% certain I wasn't actually on with those true people...other than bad behavior, where/when do we ban for them?


(P.S) And, though I keep my true personality when playing online, I use an anonymous personna... JamminR for Jammin! (as in "we be jammin' ") Ryan

I think any impersonation that people are likely to believe and look to as a source of authority should be banned. That's just IMO, I'm open to input.

I've banned  a couple "Garry's" myself. For some reason it just comes off as very disrespectful to me when people are pretending to be someone for whom many have great respect.
We had an impersonator server recently as well, Beast_Building_Server was the name, they got it right to the tee. I went in and asked what was up, it was just a minge server. I was worried that things they  do there might affect our reputation so one of our members went in and shut it down. It hasn't come back.
