Garry's $#%!^%# command blocks
« on: August 11, 2007, 10:03:16 pm »
Well, garry decided to crack down on commands executed from lua again. Known blocks so far are "exec", "sv_cheats", "bind", and "lua_run". I don't see any other choice but to put the hexxer back in, otherwise people can't target players with these words in their name. I have to laugh though, these blocks make it so you can't select some models, like "binder".

Should we also reinstate the lua module that allowed us to run any command on the server? Then we can clean our hands of garry's mess and never worry about it again.

What were the cons? Limited length size of what could be done/said?
Would this affect !asay and !p speach? I remember hitting that limit several times. At least, I think it got better after removing the module.
I could be wrong.

Yes, it halves the command length you can use, but it only affects console. Chat commands still remain at their normal length.

The other reason we removed it is because we thought it was causing the security breach... but I'm pretty sure that was from putting the command in quotes.
