Hate to say it, but they're looking good  :'(

Don't know how functional it is, but I do like the way he/she utilized derma.

Jay, I'm curious; besides the GUI using derma, what basis do you say its competition?

I just read over page 1 and 6 and 7 of the release.
Seems a few are having trouble getting it to work. Probably the same exact reasons every other admin mod has trouble. User laziness on not knowing how to read/add an admin/run a server without tools.
ULX does everything it does, in a different way perhaps, but still the same functions.
I've looked at the code. Seems sloppy. That's mostly just opinion on my part.

Seems like overv161 (the author) accused Megiddo of reporting his release, so he's not uploaded it to garrysmod.org.
Two people have asked, but with no response, as to what proof he has Megiddo did it.

Though the derma and GUI are nice... I don't think they necessarily make it competition to ULX.

Haha, I find it funny that he would blame me for something like that. Don't the mods there actually go through and check the validity of the reports anyways?

Nicer gui is on the todo list... someday...

If you've got ideas for a new gui jay, please feel free to propose changes. Just remember that anything that can be done from the gui must also be able to be done from console. Personal policy, since I hate using gui's. :P

<clip>

We've been wanting a better GUI for a long time now.
ULX GUI was done before Derma was even released, then never updated.

You're the new guy on the block, and have been using Derma more than Megiddo and I both lately;
design us a new one!

I do agree though; the GUI must do everything available in console and vice-versa.

     - This shouldn't be a problem, since the gui would require the console commands to operate.

I'm thinking more on the lines of creating an entire GUI addon, like Derma, but "Prettier". Then Incorporating Ulx to and the GUI together. IDK yet though, just brainstorming atm.

Like an IDE?
Like what ULib is to Gmod-Lua?
Interesting. Seems like re-inventing the wheel since Derma already exists, BUT, I would have probably said the same thing about ULib at it's first stages. Now that I see what all ULib improves/adds, I'm hooked.

     - Wouldn't say "re-inventing" rather doing it the way it should of been done.

I've been monitoring the newadmin thread.
For those that run dedicated servers and HLSW, we have NewAdmin beat for now.
Most server owners don't always admin while running Gmod as a game client.
NewAdmin, at this time, doesn't have console commands that don't involve some GUI portion.
I personally believe he has a long way to go before ded server admins would consider it.
Two major things I've noticed right now.
1) Any chat that starts with "!" in chat, breaks ALL text chat monitoring hooks/scripts. (ULX, and any other that might monitor chat, whether what is typed is a NewAdmin command or not. He uses ' return "" ' even after a non NewAdmin chat.
2) He has no easily used console commands.

Other than that, yes, I'm starting to see how many want pretty skins.
I'm an old command prompt/linux shell user and always have been. This is why I like ULX. This is why many other dedicated server/HLSW users like ULX.
However, he fixes those two points, I believe we'll see a mass migration.

NewAdmin is great!! It seems to have MORE idiots using it because they can't read and follow instructions and prefer a GUI than ULX does.
GUI's bring more 'i want it now and am too lazy to follow instructions' it seems.
I'll still say though, ULX user management still needs one now that we've got it rock solid behind the scenes.
Overv is still having various issues.

Too bad Valve and Garry keep releasing releases that break each other, and then ULX.

OMG! This is the best admin mod EVER! :D I had problems to put myself as owner on both ulx and assmod.. But with this mod, i can! Thanks ;)

Yes, because typing "SetRank <yourname> Owner" from server console (case sensitive) is so much easier than typing "ulx adduser <autocomplete name> 1"
