Interesting statistics
« on: February 18, 2010, 11:17:24 pm »
I found out that I can see all sorts of wonderful information about who's using SVN in the logs today, so I decided to run it through a script to squeeze information from them.

To set a baseline, the number of unique visitors we had on ulyssesmod.net Feb 13th, 2010 was 212. Unique is defined as one IP.

Now, unique IPs accessing SVN every day (uniqueness is only counted on a daily basis):
13th: 139
14th: 126
15th: 131
16th: 128

That's ~130 users updating or checking out from SVN every day. I realize most of those are probably automated, but that's still a lot of most likely active users updating every day! Also a quick glance over google analytics indicates that we have about 100 unique visits to our download page on ulyssesmod.net every day (they may or may not have actually downloaded the files once there).

The script I used to process the apache logs is super simple, listed below. Any other stats you'd like me to grab from the logs?

Code: Lua
  1. require 'pl'
  2.
  3. local ips = {}
  4. local count = 0
  5.
  6. for line_num, line in ipairs( utils.readlines("access.log.2010-02-16") ) do
  7.         if line:find( "!svn" ) then
  8.                 local words = stringx.split( line, "%s+" )
  9.                 if not ips[ words[ 1 ] ] then
  10.                         ips[ words[ 1 ] ] = true
  11.                         count = count + 1
  12.                 end
  13.         end
  14. end
  15.
  16. print( count )
  17.
Experiencing God's grace one day at a time.

Can't think of any actual log automatic data mining at this time.
Would love to know how many of those uniques are from ded server hosting companies though.
There's a few that offer SVN auto updates.
