My "GMRelay" project
« on: November 02, 2006, 10:35:07 pm »
About a year ago, I almost released a project I called "GMRelay". It's a GMod<->IRC relay; this means that anything said in-game goes to the IRC, anything from IRC goes to GMod.

It's rather simple, but at the time, luasocket was causing GMod to crash every mapchange, so I decided not to release it and it was shelved... until today. :)

For some reason, I pulled it back out, dusted it off, and started messing around with it in our new server. There's a stable release of luasocket now, so the frequent crashing is gone.

The script is similar to "PircBot", a very nice and easy to use Java IRC bot. This is to say, it's a shell of a script but comes with all the hooks you need to do whatever you see fit.

Anyways, I wanted to see what you thought about this, is it worth releasing?

Worth releasing? Absolutely.
Will many use it? Probably not. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that someone wouldn't find it usefuil to use, and or learn from.

I still think you should consider multiserver admin...a synchronization of ban lists between servers, and ability for those admins on one server to see the chat/request of players on another to admin it, if they're on that server's admin list.
Again, this would be a niche market, but I've seen several hosts lately that have more than one server.
I'm pretty sure my friend and I would use it. We attempt to share ban lists, even though I haven't run a server much lately.

Oh, mod/lua script comparisons too. He is always tinkering, and every time I think I might have matched his server script/mod toys, he's gotten some new one.
Anyway, possible pipe dream for later.
