Xenon servers/SVN
« on: November 30, 2010, 07:00:23 pm »
After seeing the latest mucked up old code Xenon servers mess up from 'Juice' in our XGUI thread area, I decided to do some petitioning.
I included, but as I'm not sure who is on our 'teamulysses@ulyssesmod.net' distribution list, wanted to share what I sent here.
If I'm lucky enough to get a response, I'll post it here too.

So, I clicked online sales live chat at Xenonservers.com. Spoke with Tyler, notified him I needed a contact regarding out of date Garry's mod svn installer system.
He provided info. I sent following

Hi Daxter,
My name is Ryan Sutton.
I'm a developer with a group of guys known as Team Ulysses.
As a hobby, we devote much of our (little) spare time to supporting a Garry's mod Lua library we wrote known as ULib, and more known, an administration system for it called ULX, and several modules we and our community members have written for ULib.
For the past several months, we find ourselves spending time troubleshooting issues to find out they aren't using the latest SVN code from our servers, but have used what they _believe to be latest SVN_ code from your installer system hosted at Xenon.
Though we appreciate your offering our administration mod among others, we find that your company's hosting popularity is becoming time consuming to not only us, but to your own paying customers as well.
We're starting to ask the question in first round of troubleshooting SVN issues "If you're using SVN, is it from Xenon? - Yes? Don't!"

Please. Help your customers. Help us.
How can we assist you in upgrading your installer system to use actual latest SVN from our repositories?

/index.php/topic,3092.0.html
I recall at least 5 other discussions in other topics where Xenon is the SVN culprit, but those two links above should be enough to show.
If not, I can take the time to find all of them for you.

Regards,
Ryan Sutton

Oh, by the way, though I'm 99% sure all of you know, I like to keep my 'real name' to private discussions only (and attempt to do same for you)
So, when in other parts of the board or public profile comments, use my evil twin JamminR . ;>

Wow. Quicker response than I expected, and we have a fan.
(Though, still waiting a few days before celebrating SVN fix)

Daxter,
Thank you for you and any fellow support team members quick attention to this.
We appreciate it and any endorsement of our mod you give, personal or otherwise.
If your installer system handles github repositories, you may wish to
offer Xgui.
Though it wil soon be the replacement GUI menu included in ULX (we
still endorce console/non gui), at this time it is still a separate
release for our SVN code users at the moment..
If your system doesn't handle Github, at least Xenon having the latest
SVN of ULib will help us (and  your customers) greatly.
XGUI github page (which includes svn link -
https://github.com/SticklyMan/xgui/ )

As you assisted in our request of Xenon, if we can be of any
assistance regarding ULib/SVN and your customers regarding them,
please let us know.
Email teamulysses@ulyssesmod.net for you and/or your team.
For general support questions by your customers, we recommend
searching forums.ulyssesmod.net first.

Regards,
Ryan

:D  I didn't have to do shameless self-promoting this time! :P

Thanks JamminR, that should really sort out 50% of issues here that don't involve end-user stupidity!

End programmers don't have as many issues and end users though  8)

Warm fuzzies! It gives me motivation to hurry and finish up XGUI! Oh crap, still got finals.. and I'm playing minecraft.. uhh.. *ahem*

Also, XGUI can be downloaded via SVN at this URL:
http://svn.github.com/SticklyMan/xgui.git

It's a github link, but it should act the exact same as svn

EDIT: Just verified that it's still working too, since it was broken at github a while back

Interesting. Daxter invited me to his Steam friends list. Last online 1 day ago. Somehow missed the invite yesterday evening.
Anyone else?
