Mexico
« on: August 24, 2012, 03:15:41 pm »
Will be out of town all this coming week.
Returning to US 8/31

No idea if place I'm going will have a 'net connection...not taking a PC, and don't use forums on the phone I am taking.

Try not to miss me too much. :P

Why Pinky, try to take over the world, of course.
One country at a time.
You where you are.
I where I'm going.
Stick and Megiddo on (well, might as well be) each side of where they are.
The few other lurkers can just contribute to the entire plan.
GENIUS!

-Trying to charge my Sandisk mp3 player (with rockbox upgrade).
I've not used it in, well, probably 5+ years.... hope its rechargeable battery still holds a charge.
Hope the phone charger I'm taking with me doesn't fry it when I connect it. :)

I really need to check the forums more often... Sorry I missed it, JamminR! Hope you got a barrel of rocks.

...I mean fun. Yep, totally meant fun.

Oh, good, mention of 'sales' not included. Whew.

Got back late Friday (est). Had a blast!

Learned some neat stuff.
Tequilla - It can be SMOOTH. Not this sharp burning crap they export to the US. Savory. Brought back some bottles of stuff we'll never get here.
Glass blowing - Recycled glass (broken windows, etc) can be re-blown. But only once. (missed what happens if it's done twice..couldn't hear over the blast furnace and crowd)
Mexican food - Most real mexican food is pretty bland. Americanized versions of it (aka tex mex) are what have made most of it spicy.
There's probably lots more. Thats just what's floating to top for now.

In glass blowing, most shops don't reblow at all. My understanding is that it makes it super brittle if you recycle the glass. Guess Mexico has lower standards. :)

Well, the place we went was a REAL touristy shop.
My wife wanted the particular tour we chose because a glass shop was on the list of stops...unfortunately, that stop being one of the least favorite of the stops we made.
Not a single peice of work was in the shop that she was interested in.
We figure they kept the good stuff for all the local resorts/high-end restuarants.

Overall though, rest of tour that day was enjoyable.
