Decicus copy cat
« on: November 24, 2013, 09:31:16 pm »
Posting this here, because I hate SMF private messaging.
------------------
Guys, per the 'angry he released my code' post Marcusmoo made in "Decicus'" ulx commands release forum, don't know best way to handle it.
From Decisus actual code, he writes it as though Marcusmoo is only an inspiration, and that Decicus came up with it all. (Bold is my emphasis)
Quote
--Inspired by Markusmoo.
--This silent kick doesn't only run the command silently, it prints to admins-only without giving them permission to see silent echos.
--This is technically the standard "ULX Kick" command, I don't take credit for anything else other than adding a silent function to it, but also the "print to admins" part.

Marcusmoo is right though, the code is 99.9% straight from his posting. (see image of post in Marcusmoo PM quote below)

This on our forum page.  However I can' t give you a link to the forum since it is in our Moderator Section which is locked to guests and users.  Anyways I didn't give him permission to use it and he isn't doing anything about it.  The link to the forums is www.fadw.net.

Alex is Decius, I can get you proof of that if you need it.  Anyways he copied sKick.  I was working on a SlapNR but I never announced it to anyone so I don't care about that one.  You snooze you lose, right? haha

Personally, stating code is inspiration seems like hullaballoo if it's 99% not my own.
Heck, UNoLimited, a project I originally released, was publically admitted to being mostly Garry's and Megiddo's code.
Seems Decicus should make it public he didn't come up with the actual code on his own.
'Inspired by' my butt. 'Stolen from' would be better, even with something as public as lua.

I agree, but the most we can do here is prevent them from posting their 'work'. It'll be up to them to be the bigger person about it.

When it's 98% my code from ULX, does it really matter if it's 1% someone else's? ;)

No, I don't actually care (in fact, I want to encourage modifications), I just think this argument is silly. I've been in their shoes though, I understand the frustration. Glad to see that Decicus satisfied Markusmoo on his own.

Yeah, haha.. that's true..

People take a ULX command and modify a few lines and release it as their own plugin (albeit a plugin for ULX) but then most of the time they don't even give credit.
I never thought of it that way.

At least Decicus said it's just the ulx kick command modified.
:P

We should sue to recover those profits Megiddo lost.
Yet one more month of negative returns, and lack of our salary.

Did you not hear me say negative returns?
He's expecting us to pay him to help around here.

True! True!
So was I!

We're even Megiddo.
You're lawsuit towards misuse and abuse of ULX by us and others is all on you.
