Community Things
« on: May 18, 2015, 05:30:10 am »
Hey, so as you may or may not know, I'm pretty big into community.
It's my driving motivation for coding and all the things I do online.

We have this site and such a robust following, and I don't feel like we're really doing much with it.
We kind of just push updates when we need to (I get it, time..) but I would like to start a few things.

1. Could I get admin on the ULX Steam Group?
2. With Megiddo's blessing I would like to start a Facebook page for UlyssesMod.

My plans are to try and make it feel like we're more active as a community and not just a few grown men trying to keep an admin mod alive.

You guys can be as active in these new ventures as you want. I'm not expecting anything from anyone. I just enjoy these kinds of things and would like to give it a shot.

... and not just a few grown men trying to keep an admin mod alive.

But.. But.. that IS all we are! (.. Wait a minute, I'm a grown man? Scary. Ack, I have responsibilities and things. I miss the simpler times of purple blankets and chinese food. :( )

In all honesty, I think it's a great idea! We used to have a Garry's Mod server back in the day (/index.php/topic,847.0.html), and I think that helped with our community presence, but lately I think we've been a bit out of touch. So, I say yes! :) I'd like to help out as well, where possible (and time permitting).

I'll ping Megiddo so he can respond as soon as possible (after work, likely)

(Also, having a server again would be fun.. If it wasn't so much work to monitor. Just putting it out there that I'm interested :P )

Typing from iPhone--feel free to create a Facebook group. You are now a Steam ULX admin.

Love the ideas MrP.
(But, I'm anti-facebook, don't have and will try to never have an account - don't even let my wife post pics of me/us on her account - just personal preference)
Feel free to use the News release section for drumming up some PR about any of it.

Just keep the kids from ruining my lawn.

and not just a few grown men (and one grumpy old man) trying to keep an admin mod alive.

Fixed for JamminR.

I think JamminR has a pressure sensitive lawn with a recording "get off my lawn, you kids!!" ;)

Mr. President, Stickly Man and I were also discussing installing a custom theme for the forums in honor of ULX4 when we released or sufficient progress was made. However, if you'd like to take point on that, we could do it whenever we find something suitable. My extravagant budget for this custom theme is $50 :). The license needs to be a pay once, use forever type. Some of the subscription-based themes are still okay since they'll let you continue to use it even when you drop the subscription.

Hmm. I've never looked into custom themes for SMB. I can certainly take a look sometime.
