Community Servers Sub-Forum
« on: January 05, 2016, 12:49:16 am »
Couple things I changed/added to the Community Servers Forum:

1. Painstakingly checked the validity of every community. I checked to make sure the servers they are posting are still in operation. If they are not I've been archiving the threads to keep the main forum clean of dead communities/servers.
2. Archived more threads. To date, I've archived over 300 (389 to be exact) threads that advertised dead servers.
3. Added a rule to Megiddo's sticky allowing people to bump their threads if they fall off the main page and only after 90 days since the last time the thread was bumped. I feel this rewards active members who still visit the forums and keeps the active communities at the top.
4. I added GameTracker banners to every thread that still had active servers. This will help me in the future to quickly detect threads with dead servers for archival purposes, plus browsing members can see if a server they might be interested in joining is even still running.

Long story short, I got the Community Servers forum down to 1 page (from 4 when I started tonight) and only active communities are represented at this time.
I plan to continue to do this on a semi-regular basis.

Woah, I was just thinking yesterday I need to dig in and do some community server archiving like you did months ago.
Especially after seeing that 'ad' that didn't have any information in it to be able to connect.

Thanks a bunch MrP.

Did another round of community server purges. It's a LOT easier when I don't let it amass up to 7-9 pages to go through and check. :P

Also, adding the the gametracker banners to the bottoms of the posts was a good idea. Made checking the statuses much easier.

I always think it's funny when I see a new 'community' pop up and then less than a month later their server is defunct. G4P has been kickin' since 2007, but I guess that's not the norm around here. :P
I'm proud to be a part of 2 of the longest standing gmod communities (and both in a leadership capacity too) :D
