Post template in the help and support area?
« on: January 23, 2016, 07:31:58 am »
What would you all think of creating a post template in the help and support area? When they click "New Topic", the text box would be filled in with something like this:

Code: [Select]
If you're requesting help, please search the forums FIRST to make sure your question hasn't already been answered. If you still need help, fill in the following information.

My ULib/ULX versions (run "ulx version" in console):
ULib v...
ULX v...

Game mode(s) I'm having this problem on:

Lua errors shown in console, if any:
[code_block]
<put any errors here>
[/code_block]

"code_block" would be just "code", SMF doesn't like me doing recursive blocks here.

What do you think? I want to get at least the version out of them, but I don't want to ask too many questions and risk them ignoring the template altogether.

It's a little problematic in that we have help and support bundled with "general chat" -- hopefully people would remove text that's not applicable. People already have enough trouble picking the right sub-forum without us adding more...

I think a template is a wonderful idea.
Unfortunately, yet one more thing for a majority of (12 year old maturity level) new posters to ignore, and us to move to other topic areas.

Add one more line - something along the lines of
"This forum section is not to ask for help about Releases/gamemodes/addons that Team Ulysses did not write; it is only for help or discussion regarding Ulysses projects"

We use templates on my forums for Help and Support / Suggestions /  Etc.
It was a great addition and really helped people post more clear and concise thoughts that were easier to read. I think it's a great idea!

Done. The template mod/package I used is held together with duct tape and bubble gum. The SMF community seems to be dying a slow death, unfortunately.

They must not have a strong community / project leader who refuses to let it die no matter how busy they become in "real life", unlike some other projects we know.

Sheesh.
I would almost swear that we're now getting MORE incorrect posts with the template in help and support than we did before.
Don't remove it, whatever we do. I'd hate to see what traffic would end up there if we didn't have it.
