Gmod Updates/Changes
« on: January 28, 2016, 09:51:01 am »
I'm making this thread as a place to dump any upcoming changes to Gmod that may be of interest to us or that may require future action.

To start, Willox made some interesting changes that are now in the dev branch:

The ones of interest are likely game.GetIPAddress and game.KickID.  game.KickID can supposedly be used in the CheckPassword hook.

include() and (soon) require() will now pass any values returned from the module, for both lua files and binary modules. I vaguely remember Megiddo complaining about this, so I thought I'd bring it up :P

Also, Willox has implemented functions to mount GMA files in lua:

As stated, this would let us hot-load workshop plugins in-game. Perhaps this could be very useful for ULX4 modules? :)

Yes, the hot-loading would do exactly what we wanted to do with ULX4 extensions. Good find!

Man, we could do a lot with that... Have a menu of available extensions maintained by us with tags, categories, usage statistics. This should be fun. :)

Also, I'm impressed they are removing some of the garry'isms and returning to how Lua was designed to work. This will simplify the dependency loading in ULX4.
