Whats this I hear about you guys running a minecraft server? I have one too, but I'd like to play around on yours if youd allow me to.

We do run a Minecraft server, didn't know you played too.

It's no secret, but I have a limited amount of daily bandwidth so I can't host unless there's a special event going on. For Turkey day we were given unlimited bandwidth, but they've just turned on our bandwidth caps again now. I'm planning on hosting the server off campus over Christmas break, so I'll definitely invite you on then.

Where are you hosting your Minecraft server? From home, or somewhere else?

on my dedi box. Same place I host my website and our gmod servers.

Last cycle we used only 40GB of bandwidth of our total 3TB/month quota.

Just so everyone's clear...because at first read I thought 'wut?!?!' ... Megiddo is talking about his uni network, not the hosting provider we use for Ulysses.

I've actually gone ahead and put the server up on a VPS, so you can connect to it now at server.ulyssesmod.net.

What mods have you got running on your server? We run Runecraft and hey0.

Also sorry about the slow replies the past week... this is called <censor> week for a reason... (finals next week! projects due! papers! aaaaaaagh!)

mmm, minecraft.... Gah! I hate being reminded of this game of adventure, bliss, and zombies while I'm at work! Either way, is runecraft working yet Megiddo? I need teleports and secrets to build my awesome project

Nice, we are running Hey0 and SimpleServer. We have to run SS because we get that bug where it causes the server to lose network connection and for some reason using a server wrapper seems to fix it.

I looked at Runecraft, but I haven't tried it yet.

Runecraft is definitely worth looking into. Just be sure to block the terrain modifiers if you don't trust your users a lot.

We have our server map updating player positions in realtime and updating the images for the map every minute now.

Ok. I've avoided it long enough I guess.
I'm starting a new job at work and am really stressed about it. (I might go more into that later)
So, looking for escape, and being closer in physical proximity to an age/maturity group of those who are probably 80% gamer based... I should probably get the latest craze.
Would I like Minecraft?
Do i need to download the 'classic' free one? Or are you guys using the alpha pay one?

As far as whether or not you would like it... I don't know. Do you like building with legos and wasting hours of time at once?

Legos. Absolutely. 37yo and I still have about 1500 peices of various sets. (No tech ones, those went bye bye long ago...maybe my mom sold them. Don't remember)
Seemed most friends around me could take 10 legos and make a mansion, and my 20 legos would look like, well, blocks, but I loved wasting time for hours on end trying to make my blocks look like that mansion.
But, you've all seen my Gmod creations. Simple items that were just fun.
Ok. It's cheap. I'll buy it just to say I jumped off a bridge with all the others.

Geez. I should have read more before buying. I hate the idea of 'recipes'. Just read one of the minecraft wikis.
I hated most console games growing up because of the A+A+B+C+B = Super combo kick butt move
I can't ever remember those.

Heck, I can't even get/find the grid/inventory thing the wiki talks about to make some of the stuff.
